Australia vs England - Champions Trophy 2013 Cricket Match

Australia vs England

Result Update - England won by 48 runs

Star Cricket and Star Sports 2 continues its quality TV telecast in India as Champions Trophy 2013 moves to its third match to be played between Australia and England. After couple of matches from Group B, now we have opening match of Group A that consists of teams like Australia, England, Srilanka and New Zealand.

Apart from the important Champions Trophy face off today, certainly the upcoming Ashes would be playing in the minds of both these teams. A win here would serve as a confidence catalyst for both the teams. Let us preview both the teams.

Australia is not yet out of the revival phase which has taken almost two years nows. Their dominance in world cricket ended in the year 2011 and in last few years they have seen many of their match winners being retired. This team certainly misses the services of players like Warne, McGrath, Waughs, Ponting, Langer and Gilchrist. But as they have to move on they are banking on their youngsters who would take time to take Australia to newer heights.

Australia registered a good win against West Indies in the warm up match but lost miserably against the World Champions India. Chasing a score of 309 they were bowled out for mere 65 runs and that was a shocking defeat for a potentially good team like Australia. They need to forget it as a night mare and give their best against England.

England came out of a test series win against New Zealand which was followed by a ODI series loss against the same team. Overall England has improved a lot in last three years. Especially at home they have won 23 of their last 37 matches. England is well aware of the home conditions and would also enjoy the home support.

Head to head Australia enjoys a 6-5 lead in last couple of series against England. But not to forget Australia suffered a 0-4 loss in England in 2012. England players like Cook, Bell, Trott, Broad, Bresnan, Morgan, Swann make the team very strong and all they need is to perform well. This team looks like the team to beat and if they get going they are really hard to beat.

It is hard to pick up a favourite but on any given day Australian cricket team could beat any given team in the world. At the same time England is really strong at home. So let us wait and watch which team comes up as the winners today.
