ICC Champions Trophy's last edition kicked off with some good news for Indian cricket fans as team India won the match against South Africa by 26 runs. Again a good amalgamation of spin and fast bowling attack came in handy for the teams along with some sensible batting also. Now it is turn for Pakistan to take on West Indies in back to back matches of Group B.
West Indies have had a good experience of performing well in Champions Trophy. They have won the trophy in 2004. They also managed to reach the finals on two other occasions where they lost. In 1998 they lost to South Africa and in the year 2006 they lost to Australia.
West Indies is one of the most strongest teams this year in the tournament. Well led by skipper Sammy, this team has already won the last T20 world cup. Almost every player in the playing XI can bat well as well as bowl well. And not to forget, they all are exceptional fielders.
Pollard has been a star for this team in last one year. He has also performed pretty well this year in IPL. Dwayne Bravo is at the peak of his form where he regularly clinched wickets. He comes in handy with the bat also. The batting order is strong with the likes of Darren Bravo, Chris Gayle, Smith, etc. Sammy, Pollard, Bravo can always take good care of the middle order.
On the other hand, Pakistan this year has a relatively young and inexperienced team. With stars like Afridi, Umar Akmal. Umar Gul and Younis Khan not featuring in this Champions Trophy; fans are not considering this team to be the favourites to win. But who knows, this team can pull out rabbit from the hat.
Hafeez is consistent with his bat and so are Misbah and Shoaib Malik. With a lot of young fast bowlers in the team, Pakistan can bank on the fast bowler friendly conditions here. They have one of the best spinners in the world Saeed Ajmal who would play a vital role as well.
Group B is considered to be a tougher group and hence teams like India, South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies can't take any match lightly. To begin with, one simple win can boost the confidence of the whole team. So let us expect we see a nail biting contest here between Pakistan and West Indies cricket teams.
