Srilanka vs New Zealand - Champions Trophy 2013 Cricket Match

Srilanka vs New Zealand

Result: New Zealand won by 1 wicket

Group A's opening match between England and Australia went England's way and now stage is set for the big match on the big Sunday. Srilanka will try their fortunes on New Zealand at Cardiff. Two exciting teams with brilliant fielders, tactful bowlers and power hitting batsmen ensure an exciting Sunday for cricket fans. Star Cricket and Star Sports 2 channels will telecast the match live in India.

Srilanka hasn't got a good start to their Champions Trophy campaign. They faced defeats in warm ups against India and West Indies and the warm up against Pakistan was washed out. Srilanka posted a mammoth 333 runs on board against India but bowlers disappointed as Kohli and Karthik smashed hundreds to take India home with six balls to spare. Srilankan batsmen couldn't score an at par score against West Indies and lost by few runs.

Although Perera and Dilshan can provide a strong platform to the innings at the top, but middle order looks vulnerable. Jayawardene and Sangakkara are one of the best batsmen in world cricket but they are not in good form. Even Mathews is finding hit hard to find his form.

Bowling wise the team looks good. Lasith Malinga can be very dangerous with his yorkers. Kulasekara and Eranga are consistently doing well with the ball. Thisara Perara can be a good all rounder in English conditions with his intelligent bowling and hard hitting batting. If Srilanka can play to its potential, New Zealand will find it hard to win.

New Zealand doesn't have a good head to head record against Srilanka. Especially in last two years their performance against Srilanka has been dismal. But they are high on confidence with 2-1 ODI series win against England and now they are well aware of the playing conditions in England. Keeping this factor in mind they have an upper hand.

Guptill is doing a brilliant job with his bat. He scored 300 plus runs in 3 ODIs against England with 2 centuries and a strike of more than 100! Ross Taylor also did a good job with the bat. Captain McCullum looks out of form. With Vettori, Southee, Mills and McClenagham in the team; the bowling line up looks decent.
