India vs South Africa 1st Test - Litmus Test For India

India vs South Africa 1st Test

India vs South Africa 1st Test live streaming will be available online in India on Cricket Country, Ten Cricket and Ten Sports site. The match can also be viewed live on TV on Ten Sports and Ten Cricket channels. This match will be hosted at the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg . Top test team South Africa will fancy their chances against a weaker opposition India who stands third in the ICC rankings. We would use the word weaker for the ODI champions India here because of their poor performance in the ODI series against South Africa.

India didn't play a single practice match before the ODI series and the only practice match schedule before the test series was abandoned due to rain. Let us hope Indian team puts together a better competition after spending a considerable amount of time in South Africa. They must have got some idea about the bounce and pace of the tracks here and accordingly they will have to adjust their batting and bowling techniques in the test cricket. It is not easy to switch from limited version of cricket to its longest version. And it becomes harder when a team plays poor in ODI series which is followed by a litmus test of longer version cricket.

Zaheer Khan and Cheteshwar Pujara would hopefully bring some strength to this under performing team. Zaheer has been highly successful against Smith who would lead the South African side in the test series. Will Zaheer continue to clinch his wickets remains a question.

Cheteshwar Pujara has been the most emerging player of last year in world cricket. He has proved his batting class against teams like England, Australia and West Indies back home. Now he has to prove his worth on foreign soil. He reminds us of Rahul Dravid when he is rock solid on the crease. But will he play vital innings just like Rahul did way back in South Africa remains a big question.

South African team is high on confidence and being the top test team in ICC rankings they have a lot of glory with them. They must not have imagined an easy outing against India in the ODI series. Although they won't take the Indian team lightly but there won't be too many things they would be wary about.

Players like Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Smith and Kallis are difficult to beat especially in South Africa. Indian bowlers will have to bowl with a lot of patience and good line length to wait for one big mistake from the South African batting giants.

One big positive thing that India can keep in mind is they haven't lost any test match here at Johannesburg. India drew two matches followed by a win against South Africa in 2006. Can this Indian team pull out a rabbit out of their hat and create history on South African soil? Too pragmatic but not impossible!
